When you walk into our office, you’ll notice that it differs from many dentist’s waiting rooms. We like to think of it as a sanctuary for curious minds. Many of our patients enjoy browsing through the books Dr. Memoli has curated from his personal collection. In addition to books and periodicals on dentistry, our collection spans a wide range of health topics. As a holistic practice, we support the health of the entire body, and you can see that reflected on our bookshelves.
Holistic dentistry focuses on the body as a whole in relation to dental health, so I’m a voracious reader about nutrition and other factors that affect one’s health, like medical treatments and vaccines. Our practice focuses on preventative treatment, to stop problems before they occur, and we like to keep our patients informed. Dr. Memoli loves it when he can lend a favorite book to a patient, and often patients take a book home with them to discuss with us later.
You also may find a select few books on art and culture—all critical to human health and individual well-being. These topics are incredibly compelling in our eyes, and Dr. Memoli is always looking for new books on subject.
Adjacent to the bookshelves, patients also often notice the tea kettle and sets of herbal teas. Tea boosts the immune system and reduces inflammation. And there’s nothing like a hot cup of tea on a chilly day.
Here at the Institute for Systemic Dentistry, we’re lifelong learners. One of Dr. Memoli’s favorite ways to relax is to curl up with a holistic book or talking with patients about the books he shares. Books are ultimately about sharing ideas. Our hope is that our book collection can help open our patients’ minds to perspectives they haven’t yet explored and support them as they take their health and wellness to new heights.
